The historic town of Stara Lubovna was strategically established in the Poprad River valley. Importantly, the Poprad River is the only river in Slovakia that flows northward and empties into the Baltic Sea. Today, over 700 years after the first historical record of Lubovna, a new chapter unfolds for one of Europe’s most stunning castles.
As a hallmark of Stara Lubovna, visited by hundreds of thousands of people from around the world, this castle was commissioned by King Andrew II at the turn of the 13th and 14th centuries atop a lofty rock Its historical purpose included safeguarding trade routes for transporting valuable ores and Hungarian wine.
